Creative Community Care opens in Santa Ana, CA
An outcome of a nine-month virtual art residency co-led by HUB co-director Dr. Maria Liu Wong and Dr. Sarah Gerth van den Berg, Creative Community Care: Artists Respond to Pandemic Times is an interactive group exhibit exploring concerns and questions arising from COVID-19 and racial violence at the intersection of the arts, learning, faith, and the city. Eight artists adapted their creative practices to process their own experiences with grief and memory, relationships as neighbors and friends, and roles as parents and caregivers. Their works invite us to consider the relevance of the arts for healing and dream of new ways we might care for our communities.
The traveling exhibition opened at the She/They Gallery in Santa Ana, CA, on March 1-3, 2024 in conjunction with the HUB Regional Gathering 2024 : West Coast (March 4-5, 2024). This is the first stop of three in 2024. Our hope is that the exhibition and its related programming will activate conversations with faith leaders and the public in ways that show how the arts can bring together church and community.
